Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ page provides clear answers to common questions about the services we offer to veterans and NDIS participants. From eligibility for NDIS and DVA Gold Card services to details on how we support with personal care, housing, and mental health, this page helps you navigate available support options

  • We help you access and coordinate supports across both DVA and NDIS
  • If you’re entitled to both, combining DVA and NDIS gives you a complete support system—DVA addresses service related needs, while NDIS supports daily living and long-term wellbeing
  • We don’t just care for you—we ensure your family is supported too, using all available services across both systems
  • Our team is veteran led with lived experience, we understand what you’re going through
  • We simplify complex systems so you’re not left to manage paperwork or services alone
  • We connect you with trusted providers who respect your service and support your goals
  • We advocate for you and ensure your supports are aligned, effective and working in your favour

Having a DVA Gold Card does not automatically make you eligible for the NDIS. The DVA Gold Card provides health care benefits for veterans related to service-related injuries or illnesses, while the NDIS is specifically for people with permanent and significant disabilities. You may be eligible for both, depending on your disability and health conditions.

The DVA Gold Card provides health care and services related to service-related injuries or illnesses. It covers medical expenses, hospital care, and treatment for these specific conditions. On the other hand, the NDIS supports people with permanent and significant impairment/disabilities, regardless of whether the impairment/disability is service-related or not. The NDIS helps fund supports like personal care, support coordination, and assistance with daily living tasks.

No, the DVA Gold Card is for health care specific to service-related injuries or illnesses. NDIS funding is separate and can be used for services related to impairment/disability support, such as personal care, daily living assistance, and support coordination. Both can be used to complement each other, depending on your eligibility for the NDIS.

If you need assistance with managing your NDIS plan, our Support Coordination service can help. Support coordinators assist you in understanding your NDIS plan, ensuring you are using your funding effectively, and connecting you with the right services. They guide you through the entire process to make sure you are receiving the supports you need.

While Heroes Assist primarily focuses on NDIS support, we can guide you through the process of applying for DVA benefits and accessing additional veteran-specific services. We can help you understand your entitlements and connect you to support options that complement your needs, including housing assistance and mental health support.

Eligibility for DVA and NDIS services depends on your specific impairment/disability and health needs. The NDIS is available to individuals with permanent and significant disabilities, regardless of whether the disability is service related. If you have both a service related injury and a permanent disability, you may be eligible for supports under both systems. You can check your eligibility by reviewing the NDIS criteria or by speaking with us directly.
